Reintroduce Freshwater at Violet

The Mississippi carries freshwater,
nutrients, and sediment critical to wetlands.

Overview:

The Violet Diversion will distribute freshwater and a small amount of sediment to the Central Wetlands and Biloxi Marshes. Construction of Violet should be a top priority, because other key projects in the MRGO study area depend on its performance.

Benefits:

Mitigate historical impacts of the MRGO channel
Improve fish and wildlife habitat
Increase the resiliency of coastal wetlands that buffer storm surge to erosion, subsidence, and sea level rise
